If your child is cared for by a registered nanny in the National Childcare Register (LRK), you are entitled to childcare allowance. To be registered, a nanny must:
speak Dutch, but may also speak another language with the children (for example, English),
hold a diploma that qualifies them to be registered as a nanny (if not, Kroost Nannies can help the nanny obtain one quickly),
have a Certificate of Conduct (VOG), which Kroost Nannies will arrange,
hold a valid first aid certificate for children.
Nannies registered with Kroost Nannies always meet these requirements and can therefore be registered in the LRK.
Additional requirements are also set for parents and their home:
Both parents must have a paid job or be currently studying,
The home must be suitable for official childcare. This is checked by us during the intake meeting.
The amount of childcare allowance depends on family income and is calculated based on a maximum hourly rate per child. In 2026, this maximum rate is €8.49 per hour per child. For families with an income over €235,698, the allowance rate is 36.5% for the first child and 68.2% for the second and subsequent children. Families with a lower income receive a higher percentage of allowance.
The hourly rate you pay for childcare also affects the allowance. If the hourly rate is higher than the government-set rate, you pay the difference yourself. You apply for the allowance via the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst/Toeslagen). The allowance is paid monthly. At the end of the year, you report your actual childcare costs on a declaration form. Any difference between the entitled amount and what you received is reconciled by the Tax Administration.
If Kroost Nannies did not find your nanny, but you recruited the nanny yourself, or used one of our partners TFA, Görtz & Crown, or Holgate Nannies, or if your nanny was selected by another nanny agency, then register with us quickly so that we can formalize the childcare and ensure you are eligible for childcare allowance.
