As a nanny, you can work under the Home Services Scheme (RDH). This is a special regulation in the Netherlands for household and care services, including childcare at families’ homes. Parents and nannies can use this scheme when work in a household is limited to a maximum of 3 days per week.
Simplified administration for parents: Private clients do not have to worry about administrative or financial obligations imposed by the government. They do not need to register as an employer with the Tax Authorities and do not have to pay payroll taxes on your behalf.
Limited employment benefits: After 6 weeks of illness, you are no longer entitled to paid leave. You are entitled to a minimum of 4 weeks of paid vacation. Just like in a full employment contract, you are entitled to a transition allowance if your contract ends, even if the agreement is not renewed.
The availability of work is larger because many parents choose the RDH due to lower costs and fewer obligations.
In the case of long-term illness, you are only paid for 6 weeks and have no entitlement to unemployment benefits via the UWV.
You must file your income tax annually as a nanny and pay the taxes yourself, including contributions to the Health Insurance Act, which an employer would normally cover in a standard employment contract.
Tip:
Some nannies choose to work for parents under a full employment contract through an agency such as Kroost Nannies. This way, you keep the benefits of working with a family while also enjoying full employment conditions, such as continued pay during illness and a social safety net.
Extra tip:
If you work under the RDH and need help with your administration, income tax filing, or calculating how much you can save for your pension, we can refer you to Kas & Kroost. Kas & Kroost is the accounting firm that fully supports parents, nannies, childminders, and childcare organizations.
Kas & Kroost is part of the Kroost Family.
Nannies working under the Home Services Scheme can have their administration and tax matters handled by Kas & Kroost, allowing them to fully focus on their work with children.
Preliminary income tax assessment
Kas & Kroost can estimate the taxes owed and, in consultation with the nanny, request a preliminary tax assessment. This ensures that too much or too little tax is never paid.
Income tax filing
Kas & Kroost handles the nanny’s annual income tax return. If desired, they can also take care of the tax return for a partner or children.
Allowances
Kas & Kroost can apply for and check allowances, such as rent allowance, healthcare allowance, childcare allowance, and child-related budget, ensuring the nanny receives the correct amount.
